The Shreveport-Bossier City market competes hard for Texas drive-in traffic, and casino comps are a key weapon. For video poker players, this competition means more aggressive room offers, free play mailers, and promotional events than you'd find in markets with less competition.
Why Comps Are Strong Here
Shreveport-Bossier casinos need to give Texas visitors a reason to drive 3+ hours instead of going to an Oklahoma tribal casino or Lake Charles. Room comps, dining credits, and free play offers tip the decision. Properties that don't offer competitive comps lose players to the property next door.
The Properties
1. Horseshoe Bossier City (Caesars Rewards)
Horseshoe is the best overall VP property in this market, and Caesars Rewards gives your play national reach. Room offers at Horseshoe itself are achievable for moderate VP players, and the Caesars status you build here unlocks benefits at 50+ properties including multiple Las Vegas Strip casinos.
Comps to expect: room offers after 2-3 rated visits, dining credits at elevated tiers, free play mailers within 30-60 days of your first visit.
2. Sam's Town Bossier (B Connected / Boyd Gaming)
Boyd Gaming's B Connected program is reliable for VP comps. Sam's Town targets locals and regulars, so the comp program is designed for repeat visitors. Boyd runs frequent multiplier promotions that accelerate point earning.
Room comps at Sam's Town are achievable because the hotel isn't as expensive to operate as a luxury resort — the property can afford to comp rooms at lower play levels.
3. Bally's Shreveport (Caesars Rewards)
Bally's is on the same Caesars network as Horseshoe, so playing at either property builds the same status. The strategic play: split your Caesars time between Horseshoe (better VP pay tables) and Bally's (different promotions, less crowded).
4. Margaritaville Resort Casino
Margaritaville's comp program targets the entertainment-focused visitor. The promotional events are creative and the hotel is comfortable. For VP specifically, the comps may not be as strong as Horseshoe or Sam's Town, but the total experience (room + dining + entertainment + VP) can be competitive.
5. Boomtown Casino (PENN Play)
Boomtown is a smaller property on the PENN Play network. The advantage: PENN status earned at Boomtown counts at 40+ properties nationally. If you visit PENN casinos in other markets, building base status at Boomtown is straightforward because your play stands out more at a smaller property.
The Texas Visitor Strategy
If you're driving from Texas:
- Get loyalty cards at your first visit. Sign up at Horseshoe and Sam's Town at minimum — these are the two best VP comp programs in the market.
- Time your visits. Casinos send better offers to players who haven't visited recently. A monthly visit pattern generates stronger mailer offers than weekly visits.
- Use room comps to extend sessions. A comped overnight stay lets you play a longer session over two days, which is both more comfortable and generates more comp value than a single long grinding session.
