Double Double Bonus (DDB) adds "kicker" bonuses on top of the already-enhanced quad payouts from Double Bonus. Four Aces with a 2, 3, or 4 kicker pays 2,000 coins — the second-highest payout in the game after a Royal Flush. This makes DDB the most volatile standard VP variant, and Reno is a good market to find it at competitive pay tables.
The Kicker System
DDB's signature feature is kicker-enhanced quads:
| Hand | Payout (5 coins) |
|---|---|
| Four Aces + 2/3/4 kicker | 2,000 |
| Four Aces (no kicker) | 800 |
| Four 2-4 + A/2/3/4 kicker | 800 |
| Four 2-4 (no kicker) | 400 |
| Four 5-K | 250 |
The kicker quads are rare but exciting. Four Aces with a kicker occurs roughly once every 16,000 hands — less common than a Royal Flush but with a payout (2,000 coins) that's half a Royal (4,000 coins).
Full-Pay DDB
The full-pay schedule is 9/6 (9 for Full House, 6 for Flush), returning 98.98% with optimal strategy. This is not a positive-expectation game — unlike 10/7 Double Bonus or full-pay Deuces Wild, you're playing at a slight disadvantage even with perfect play.
Why play it? Because the kicker quads add excitement, and 98.98% is still a very low house edge. With comp value added on top, the total return can approach or exceed 100%.
Where to Check in Reno
Atlantis Casino Resort Spa
Atlantis is a strong starting point for DDB. Check the quarter and dollar machines for the 9/6 schedule. Below 9/6 (like 8/5 or 7/5), the return drops significantly and the game isn't worth the volatility.
Peppermill Resort Spa Casino
Peppermill's floor may carry DDB at multiple denominations. Compare schedules across different sections of the casino.
Silver Legacy Resort Casino
Silver Legacy (connected to Circus Circus Reno and Eldorado by a skyway) has a large gaming floor. Check for DDB here as an alternative if Atlantis and Peppermill are tight.
Tamarack Junction Casino
Tamarack sometimes carries specialty VP variants to attract serious players from the larger casinos. Worth a quick check.
Volatility and Bankroll
DDB is extremely volatile — more so than any other standard VP game. The combination of 1-for-1 Two Pair payouts (same as Double Bonus) and the rare-but-large kicker quads means sessions swing hard.
| Denomination | Max Bet | Session Bankroll (3 hours) |
|---|---|---|
| $0.25 | $1.25 | $500-600 |
| $0.50 | $2.50 | $1,000-1,200 |
| $1.00 | $5.00 | $2,000-2,500 |
Expect more losing sessions than with Jacks or Better. The wins, when they come, are bigger — but they come less frequently.
Strategy Notes
DDB strategy is the most complex of the standard VP games. The kicker bonuses change holding decisions in subtle ways:
- With three Aces, hold them (potential kicker quad)
- With a pair of Aces and a low card (2-4), the kicker card has value
- Some three-to-a-Royal situations change because of the relative value of kicker quads
Practice with our free Double Double Bonus game until you're comfortable with the strategy — DDB penalizes mistakes more than lower-volatility games.
