All American Poker is a unique VP variant where the Straight, Flush, and Straight Flush all pay 8-for-1 — significantly higher than in Jacks or Better. This creates a strategy that's noticeably different from other VP games, making free practice particularly valuable before playing for real money.
Why All American Needs Practice
All American's enhanced straight and flush payouts change many hold decisions:
- Four to a Straight is more valuable. The 8-for-1 straight payout (vs. 4-for-1 in JoB) means you'll hold four to a straight in situations where JoB strategy would break the hand.
- Four to a Flush is more valuable. Same reasoning — the 8-for-1 flush payout makes flush draws much more attractive.
- Two Pair pays only 1-for-1. Like Double Bonus, this reduces the value of two-pair hands and increases volatility.
If you play All American with Jacks or Better strategy, you'll make numerous costly errors. Free practice is the safest way to learn the correct plays.

What to Practice
- Learn the new priority order. Four to a Flush in All American is often a better hold than a low pair — the opposite of JoB strategy.
- Get comfortable with higher variance. The 1-for-1 Two Pair payout means more losing hands per session. Free play lets you experience this without financial stress.
- Study the pay table. Full-pay All American returns 100.72% — one of the highest-returning VP games. But this only applies if you play the right strategy.
Transitioning to Real Money
Once you're comfortable with the strategy:
- Look for All American at casinos that carry it (check vpFREE2)
- Verify the pay table before playing — short-pay versions reduce the return significantly
- Start at a comfortable denomination and work up
The strategy skills transfer directly from free play to real money — the probabilities and correct holds are identical.
